Hakan has been a student of Middle Eastern Fusion Bellydance since 2003.
He has studied under Kari Merlina of Sadiqa, Olivia Kissel of Zafira Dance Company and
Maria of Zafira Dance Company.
He has performed in numerous student shows, both as a member of the classes and as a soloist.
He is a member of the Pittsburgh Tribal Style troupe Tribe Taksim, currently in hiatus. Hakan
is an active member of the troupe
Moquette Volante. Moquette Volante
is dedicated to bringing Middle Eastern folklore to modern audiences through music, dance and
storytelling.
Hakan has performed to Ishtar, Pittsburgh's Premier Bellyrock band, for many years now. He has
soloed for them as a featured dancer at Murphey's Tap Room in Regents Square in Pittsburgh, at Your
Inner Vagabond in Pittsburgh, and at events at the Society for Creative Anachronism's Pennsic War.
Hakan has performed as an invited dancer to Wine and Alchemy at an event at the
Society for Creative Anachronism's Pennsic War.
Hakan's dancing is a combination of American Tribal Style with a hint of Turkish style.
He is greatly influenced by Zafira's Romantic Bellydance.
Hakan dances to traditional Bellydance music, but is also comfortable dancing to modern music
such as Blue Man Group and Squonk Opera.
